Fat Dissolving Injections.. is this the end of the ‘double chinʼ..?

Updated: Aug 13, 2021

Itʼs pretty amazing to see & hear how common the ‘double chin’ really is. Maybe itʼs due to the ‘selfieʼ phenomena, the latest trending jawline craze or an increase in our self-awareness. Whatever the reason, the true double-chin has until now been around to stay, despite exercise, dieting, losing weight and all the things we think will work.

But, alas... the double chin always remains.

It’s one of those areas that we can strongly attribute to our genetics. Whereby our family history of skin with little elasticity or double chins might run in our family. Poor posture, diet and weight can also play its part in our own chin/neck structure.

So then what..?

Liposuction surgery has long been & still is the gold standard for removing this su-mental fat pocket. Though, there are alternate nonsurgical options also available.

Hmm, well that’s where Fat Dissolving Injections could be your new BFF. But letʼs have a serious look at this option first.

What are Fat Dissolving Injections?

There a are a few options as far as the active ingredients used in the injections. Due to legislation it is a little tricky to talk too much about the different formulas that are available, BUT there are choices available here at skinPERFECT Clinic.

In a nutshell, these little injections have been used for over a decade and are a non-surgical option to treating stubborn fat areas.

This is not a ‘weight-lossʼ procedure but more-so for the treatment of stubborn fat deposits.

How does it work?

A few (usually 5 or so) micro-injections containing DC and PPC (these names cannot be fully named here due to our strict TGA regulations) are directed straight into the fat pocket, acting to infiltrate the fat cells, destroy them & melt them away. Both the DC & PPC are naturally occurring substances found in the human body. Their role is to breakdown fat cells, the PPC is actually found within our bile and is responsible for emulsifying the fat we consume in our diet (which we then eliminate, of course)..whilst the DC is a bile salt which functions to make the PPC soluable in water, basically, making it like a detergent to breakdown the fats we digest in our diet.

Would this treatment suit me?

As with most things in life - itʼs all about the individual. This treatment is no different, though in general is best suited to those with good skin laxitity - so it can bounce back without creating a wrinkly or creepy effect on the neck.

“If you can pinch it, you can treat it” - depending upon the skin, the sub-mental fat pocket, your treatment effect and your desired results you may need 2-4 treatments, spaced 8 weeks apart. We will cover this in your consultation.

What are the side effects?

- some moderate swelling for 24 hours

- Some mild swelling for around 3-4 days

- Some mild bruising needs to be anticipated

- Some tenderness to the neck, described as feeling ‘heavyʼ for a few days

- A burning or hot feeling to the area

- Some lumps under the skin, perfectly normal & can last several weeks but cannot be noticed by the eye

- Potentially some numbness & pins & needles sensation which will pass

Are there any risks?

Of course!

With all medications there are risks.. so thatʼs a great question!

Though, these injections are very well tolerated there’s always a potential for nerves to be involved & damaged. Infection is a risk of any injection & the skin being penetrated.

Signs & symptoms of skin infection:

- Redness

- Pain Swelling

- Exudate (yellowish colour)

Since some of these signs are to be expected as a result of this treatment, we pride ourselves on the after-care experience of our clients. This is why we love a selfie pic everyday just to show us exactly whatʼs going on. This way we can reassure you throughout your treatment.
